Tsukure Mad Labs 0 - 10V Digital Volt Monitor

0-10V Volt monitor project has been designed around LM3914 IC, It is an easy and less expensive project which instantly visualizes voltage level. The project is based on the popular LM3194 IC from Texas instruments. Handy 0-10V DC Voltmeter can be used as a voltage tester.

The LM3914 senses the voltage level at the input pin and drives the 10 light emitting diodes based on the voltage detected on input connector. Circuit works on 12V DC. J1 Jumper is used to select the DOT mode or bar graph mode.

Let's Get Started!

Below you will find a list of bits to gather before hand, followed by a detailed schematic. Using a breadboard lay out the components and connect them together as shown. Alternatively you can purchase this module from our shop and simply solder the components in the places indicated on the quality assured printed circuit boards provided.

1 104 (100nF / 0.1uF) Capacitor (Ceramic)
1 10uF Capacitor (Polarized)
2 PCB Mount 2-Pin Screw Terminal Block Connector (Other)
1 10V Diode (Zener)
1 LM3914 Integrated Circuit (IC)
4 5mm Green (Diffused) LED
4 5mm Red (Diffused) LED
2 5mm Yellow (Diffused) LED

NB: Any resistor colour codes specified relate to 5 band resistor codes, the 5th band has not been shown intentionally. The 5th band indicates the resistor tolerence, we use only the highest tolerence resistors in our products.

Step 1) Getting Started

Before we begin placing components and soldering we should first place your components in a small tub so that they don't roll off your table or get lost.

Lay the PCB out infront of you and take a close look at all the components we will be using.
